Age: About 300 years
DOB: April 28th, ????
Gender: Male — Trans — He/Him
Species: Fairy
Height: 5’6” when he shifts to be of a human-esque size, about 7 inches tall when more appropriately fairy-sized.
Occupation/Livelihood: Companion and helper of Prince Chamomile, a medium of the Fair—Basil is one of the many fae in his arsenal.
Personality: Basil is exceedingly friendly and agreeable, having an upbeat disposition and overall positive outlook on most things. He can be naive almost to a fault and, due to a sheltered upbringing, he isn’t knowledgable about much of anything other than plantlife. He can sometimes offer philosophical insights inherent to someone who has been alive for multiple centuries, and is happy to use his abilities for the sake of others without any need for repayment. He is especially fond of humans, though this fondness can sometimes come off as patronizing, in the same way someone would gush about the cuteness of a helpless kitten, and unlike most of the Fair, his pranks and riddles are only ever harmless and for fun—he has no intention of luring anyone to their entrapment or deaths. Discovering his presence is a sign of good fortune, as he will happily offer his assistance with most benign or magical tasks until he is no longer needed or he’s called away by his prince.
Biography: Basil was born as the younger of two sisters upon the island of Clover Bay, and his birth would spell misfortune for his family. The Oracle of the island commanded the execution of his parents, causing his aunt to flee with his sister to a neighboring colony of fae in the mountains. Basil was subsequently raised by a select few of the fae on the island, who were under strict orders from The Oracle not to let him leave the confines of the colony and to raise him to be a simple laborer or caregiver, discouraging any curiosities about greater magic than the kind which they inherently possessed.
As Basil grew up, he displayed an unusual fondness for mortal creatures and humans in particular, a far cry from the distaste his peers seemed to have for them, and grew a healthy curiosity for the outside world despite efforts to suppress it. One day, after escaping the watchful eye of those appointed to keep watch over his life, he stumbled upon a cave bluff with a strange, suppressed force within it. His presence alone seemed to undo the magical lock with which it was being held, and he was overwhelmed by the surge of energy being released, blacking out.
He awoke in an imprisonment cell being overseen by the Oracle herself, and was told by her that he had done something unspeakably horrible and must be punished for it. Basil was subjected to several painful attempts at exorcising the newfound energy from his being before being banished to the shore of the island indefinitely, the Oracle swearing she would cast him into the depths of Hell if he even attempted to break his exile.
Terrified and wishing only to be freed of her torturous experiments, he agreed. He solemnly carried out his exile on the shore for 250 years, gathering up the things that humans would leave behind on the beach after being lured into the forest by the illusory magic his peers possessed. He learned a great deal about mortals this way, and his fondness for them only grew as time went on, admiring their resilience and the way that they lived despite—or perhaps because of—being creatures with such short lives, though a few direct interactions with them lead to the Oracle demanding he cease making himself seen to them altogether. Under such circumstances, he was limited to the role of a passive observer, which he still enjoyed enough to keep some optimism about the state of his life as an exile.
One day, he was pulled through a rift between worlds by Prince Chamomile, who had been seeking aid during a fight, abruptly freeing him and providing him a new life as one of the prince’s fae companions. Though the Oracle is currently devising a plan to snatch him back to his own world and exact her punishment, Basil currently spends his days assisting Chamomile and the organization known as Crown, more than happy to provide his aid to human companions and experience life outside the island for the first time, away from his sheltered upbringing.
Abilities: Incorporeal Form/Shapeshifting— As he is a being of pure magic with which his soul is inextricably entwined, he can choose whether or not he is able to be touched by mortal beings, as well as change his body to be that of any animal on Earth, which is something he enjoys doing often. If forced to fight, he will often shift multiple times as needed to attack or evade, such as turning into a mountain lion (attack) and then a bird (evade) in rapid succession. This is currently the only way of combat in which he is somewhat proficient.
Sun Magic— Due to mysterious circumstances, his usual fairy magic has been given the properties of gentle sunlight. With this, he can stimulate the healing responses in most living creatures and aid in their healing, especially for plants and beings who are especially plant-like in their biology, and bestow warmth easily onto someone or something. This is the primary use of his magic, and the type he is most proficient in.
Fairy Dust— The moth scales upon his wings are mixed with a shimmering magical dust, which experienced magic users can use as they see fit. It also tends to bestow a shimmering quality to anything that touches or brushes up against it.
Possession— Since a fairy is a form of spirit, he can enter the bodies of mortals and exert some degree of control over the vessel in which they reside (usually a flesh body) as well as bestow his own powers upon that vessel. So far, Basil has only achieved this with Prince Chamomile, and he doesn’t typically desire to exert this kind of control over others.
